When it comes to wine, diversity is Chile's calling card. The South American country produces a wide range of styles from all over its narrow confines, which stretch from arid desert in the north to coastal and mountainous terroirs on the outskirts of metropolitan hubs and along natural, bucolic landscapes in the south. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, two of the primary work-horse reds for the country, are featured in our latest Tasting Highlights, along with Sauvignon Blanc, which has also become an important white grape.
Atop the list are two wines from Viña Tabali. The Limari-based winery primarily focuses on cool-climate varieties well-suited to the region's environment. However, its Talud Cabernet Sauvignon hails from an estate vineyard in Maipo Valley, where Cabernet is prevalent. Yet the winemaking shows a deft hand reminiscent of cool-climate production in this elegant version with petrichor, dusty rose petal, cherry and red currant notes and precise tannins.
This lineup also includes Viñedos Terranoble's Carmenère Maule Valley Azara 2022, which is refined with mineral, cherry and herb notes. Read on to get our score and full expert tasting note for this wonderful Chilean wine and seven others.
