Southern Italy brims with distinctive white and red wines. Many are produced from regional varieties that are rarely grown beyond this part of the world.
My recent tastings included structured reds made from Aglianico. Bottlings from Basilicata's Mount Vulture are firm and racy with a wild, minerally feel to them. Meanwhile, Campania's Taurasi region is the grape's traditional home. Feudi di San Gregorio offers a particularly well-priced example from this typically pricier appellation; enjoy its tarry underpinning with ripe dark fruit and fragrant herb notes. Campania is also home to delicious white wines produced from Falanghina, Fiano and Greco.
This lineup also includes Grifalco della Lucania's Aglianico del Vulture Grifalco 2022, a harmonious red with dark fruit and lavender notes. Read on to get our score and full expert tasting note for this fantastic Southern Italian wine and 10 others.
