In our latest Tasting Highlights, we feature a diverse mix of value wines from California, Oregon and Washington state, all priced $35 or less. There are wines from noteworthy regions such as Napa, Sonoma, Willamette Valley and Columbia Valley, with a few single-vineyard wines. There are also several blends of considerable quality, and fans of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon will have plenty to discover.

Massican's Annia is a blend and very intentional, and it showcases winemaker Dan Petroski's penchant for innovation. When founding Massican, he wanted to make an Italian-style white blend that reminded him of the refreshing wines he drank in Sicily. Yet, instead of using local Sicilian grape varieties for this wine, he uses Northern Italian grapes, such as Ribolla Gialla and Tocai Friulano, with a touch of Chardonnay. Petroski's 2023 bottling is sleek and juicy with a complex mix of peach, ripe melon and lime sherbet notes and an almond accent.

This lineup also includes Crossbarn's Chardonnay Sonoma Coast 2023, which is expressive with peach and citrus notes. Read on to get our score and expert tasting note for this impressive West Coast value wine and nine others.
